Throughout the month of July, Seafarers will have an opportunity to vote on the new standard freightship and tanker agreements during the regularly scheduled membership meetings at the constitutional ports. Members also are voting aboard ship when their respective vessels are serviced. In all cases, members are being presented with a detailed review of the new contracts.
Seafarers also will have the chance to vote on the new standard freightship and tanker agreements during special meetings that have been scheduled at all of the non-constitutional ports. These meetings will immediately follow the regularly scheduled July membership meetings. Members are encouraged to attend.
The membership meetings begin at 10:30 a.m. local time and, again, will be followed by special meetings to vote on the contracts as follows:
Thursday, July 7 – Jacksonville, San Juan, Norfolk (for this month only, Norfolk’s membership meeting is taking place on Thursday rather than Friday)
Thursday, July 14 – Port Everglades, Joliet
Friday, July 15 – Honolulu
Monday, July 18 – Wilmington
Thursday, July 21 – Guam
Friday, July 22 – Tacoma
The new contracts feature wage gains, maintain all benefits, add a holiday, increase pension benefits for many of our more experienced Seafarers, and secure a commitment from the companies to provide shipboard internet access for every crew member.
